The winner of the 2014 Bay of Islands Bathtub Race will be invited to attend and compete at the World Championships in Nanaimo, Canada as part of the Nanaimo Marine Festival and World Championship Race from Friday 25th through Sunday 27th July 2014.
SAFETY ……… SAFETY ……… SAFETY
Modifications and improvements to ensure Tubber safety has undergone many changes since the 1967 inception of this CRAZY sport.
Trial and error has resulted in regulations and rules,- these have NOT been established to frustrate the participants or to take out the “FUN” part. Tub safety not only includes the tub and driver, but ALL the participants, including the escort vessels, safety vessels, and all the other mariners out on the water on race day.
Please refer to the SAFETY & COMMUNICATIONS rules provided to you when you register for the BOIB Bathtub Race. The information provided within these rules details how your escort boat can contact Bathtub Control with any problems that may arise during the race.
PLEASE REMEMBER to always contact Bathtub Control or an official associated with the Bathtub race when and if you drop out of the race for whatever reason . This is so you can be accounted for – remember there are family members and friends that care.
There are a lot of people employing many communications systems that ALL focus on ensuring that events such as these are safe and enjoyable for all. Special thanks and recognition need to be extended to the following people and organisations for enabling us to bring this event to you.
- Far North Holdings Limited
- Opua Marina
- Ashby’s Boatyard
- St John Ambulance
- Coast Guard
- Salt Air
- NZ Police
- Marine Systems
- Bathtub Control
- Go North Promotions
- Waitangi Yacht Club
The safety net provided through the communications between these organisations provides for the best possible chance of avoiding accident, injury or worse to anybody.
The World Championship Bathtub Race in Canada is now arguably the largest annual multi-communications exercise in North America. BOIB has unashamedly followed the Canadian example to emulate their impeccable safety record.
Go North Promotions and Bay of Islands Bathtubbing would like to sincerely thank all of the people involved with the planning and organisation of this great event. Many of you have given countless hours of your time, the privilege of your knowledge and expertise, and even the use of or access to valuable gear and equipment to assist us in promoting safety without compromise. And to all our loyal and enthusiastic volunteers – it just wouldn’t happen without you.
